Week 9 weight 12st 13 3/4lbs (loss 8lbs) BMI 31.2

Well its the illness that has helped with the weight.  Ive not had a "meal" in the past 9 days although this has to be countered by the fact i have only left the house once in 9 days, so exercise is zero.  I would definitely expect the weight to go back on once i am well again, although goodness knows how long this will be!!

Illness Strikes!

So my new start was due to begin monday but illness has struck :( I've been led in bed/the sofa since xmas day dying! I've got flu of the worst kind so i guess my new start is going to have to be delayed a little bit! I'm currently drugged up and hoping to shake this illness off by the weekend! Fingers crossed...

Well it seems i've been AWOL the last couple of weeks and for that i apologise! However I'm back now. I forgot to weigh myself this week so i'll have to do a post xmas day weigh in. Dreading that but i suppose i should be able to lose some weight!

So here is to a new start on monday!

Marsh 6 weigh-in

Starting weight 13st 7 3/4 lbs BMI 32.6
Week 1 weight 13st 6 1/4 lbs (loss 1.5lbs) BMI 32.3
Week 2 weight 13st 5 1/4 lbs (loss 2.5lbs) BMI 32.1

Week 5 weight 13st 6lbs (loss 1 3/4lbs) BMI 32.3
Week 6 weight 13st 6 1/2lbs (loss 1 1/4 lbs)

Not getting any better. Still overall a loss which is pleasing i guess.  The snow and ice have made any form of outside activity a challenge that i have not been keen to take on.  Roll on for a better week from now!

Marsh week 5 weigh in

Starting weight 13st 7 3/4 lbs BMI 32.6
Week 1 weight 13st 6 1/4 lbs (loss 1.5lbs) BMI 32.3
Week 2 weight 13st 5 1/4 lbs (loss 2.5lbs) BMI 32.1

Week 4 missed weigh-in
Week 5 weight 13st 6lbs (loss 1 3/4lbs) BMI 32.3

Snow fun recently with the weather restricting exercise.  I managed a 1.2 mile run with the intention of starting to do something everyday.  However, its not safe to get the bike out and i dont much fancy running on the icy route.  This coupled with an even more sedentary job (we have been kept in the office more hours due to the snow) means ive done less and less.  The food intake remains reletively healthy and im sure the cholestrerol levl will be fine.

Marsh week 4

Was unfortunately missed.  The Ashes cricket has kept me up so late that i have not got up on mornings and therefore my weigh-in time was missed.

Belated Week 3 weigh in

I actually weighed myself on Tuesday, but haven't updated yet.

No chance once again, which considering my lack if taking it seriously thus far isn't surprising.

I have some motivation in place now however, have said I can get down to 14st dead by 3 weeks tomorrow (17th Dec) to my wife. So I will make darned sure I will. She has a target of her own for that timescale, and I WILL win!! :)

Salter's Weigh in Week 3

I've had a really good week this week, I've eat well, I've done my training regime every day and I even played some 5-a-side footie on my rest day. I couldn't be happier with my performance this week.

I haven't mentioned it before but I've actually got some posh scales that do all sorts so I thought I'd post a full break down of my results for the first three weeks (obviously red is over recommended, Green is in recommended zone and yellow is below recommended zone);

So i haven't quite gotten back down to my original weight but it might not be all bad. Looking at that table I'm only 0.05 lbs off it and my body fat has gone down so I can only assume it must be muscle making me that bit heavier.

Things are certainly looking up, and I'm dead chuffed with 1.5 inches off my waist. I just hope I can carry it on. I already know I'm struggling to fit Friday's work out in as I'm working 17+ hours that day but I'll have to see if I can fit it in on Sunday instead.

Marsh week 3

Starting weight 13st 7 3/4 lbs BMI 32.6
Week 1 weight 13st 6 1/4 lbs (loss 1.5lbs) BMI 32.3
Week 2 weight 13st 5 1/4 lbs (loss 2.5lbs) BMI 32.1
Week 3 weight 13st 5 1/4lbs (loss 2.5lbs) BMI 32.1

Not happy with myself for lacking the motivation to do more exercise.  I did cycle 5 miles last Saturday but nothing else to be proud of. The dietary side faltered too.  I bought and ate a double decker the other day and i had fish and chips one evening.  It also didnt help when the family surprised me with some Chinese starters one night.

Today is the start of another week and if housework and furniture moving are classified as exercises then ive done more than what i do at work.  Need to get out tomorrow for exercise though!

P90X Workout

Well in my last post I touched upon the fact I had stepped things up a bit, and I have. I introduce to you...P90X!

Its basically a fitness programme that is meant to get results. you can see more about it here. I'm onto day three and its seriously hardcore. It really is an extreme workout that leaves you feel sore afterwards.

I am still feeling the effects from Monday today which made today's routine fairly tough going but I suppose "no pain, no gain!" I am however really looking forward to Sunday when I get my rest day already. I think it is going to be a long 90 days!

Week 1 Weigh in

So Monday night I did my first week's weigh in. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. I suppose looking back I didn't really try very hard, but I've definitely stepped up my efforts in week 2. I will post more about that another time though. Here are the stats:

Starting Weight - 15 stone 3 lbs
Week 1 Weight - 15 Stone 7 lbs (+4 lbs!!)

Starting Waist size - 41 inches
Week 1 Waist size - 41 inches

A massive four pound increase! So to keep on track of losing 2 lbs a week I'm going to have to lose 8lbs this week...not a chance! I will be happy however if I can get back down to my starting weight by week 2 and I can almost start again then.

Week Two for Norton

Happy to be weighed in at 14st 8 for the second successive week. Unlike last week, I feel now I have 'earned the right' to be at this weight - it has nothing to do with being poorly.

Was Sam's birthday on Saturday gone too, so I consumed more than my fair share of sandwiches, crisps, sausages, pop, cake, jelly & ice cream....

Plenty scope for improvement by way of effort on my part

Steady Weight Loss Is OK

Initial weigh-in weight - 18 st 10 lbs
Weight after week 1 - 18 st 9 lbs
Weight this week - 18 st 8 lbs

I'm satisfied rather than happy about my slow weight loss.
My target was 2 lbs per week - I'm only currently achieving half of that.

I have to try a wee bit harder I think.

Marsh week 2

Starting weight 13st 7 3/4 lbs BMI 32.6
Week 1 weight 13st 6 1/4 lbs (loss 1.5lbs) BMI 32.3
Week 2 weight 13st 5 1/4 lbs (loss 2.5lbs) BMI 32.1

Got to be pleased with that given the "life circumstances" that dictate at times your sedentary lifestyle. Its not been an easy week from the poor rehab weather to days stuck in the office.  However, the food intake has continued to go well. I bought the food shopping and i bought well. Ive also avoided nearly every nicety offered to me all week.  Id like to get down to 13st 4lbs by next Friday!

1st week weigh in for Bache, hows he done?

It was a tense moment when i stepped on the scales monday morning. I'd tried really hard all week, swapping the fry ups at work for fruit salad, replacing lunch with ham salad and fruit salad, and swapping the afternoon chocolate bar for a low fat yoghurt. I also tried harder on the exercise front, I went for a run and a bike ride, mix that with the fact im always on the move up and down stairs at work it looks like its paid off.

Starting weight - 17st 3lb
1st week weight - 16st 12lb

According to the scales thats a weight loss of 5lb! Im extremely pleased with that and am ready to push on and lose much more!

Starting Weight

So weighed in for the first time last night.

Weight = 15st 3lbs.
Waist = 41 inches

So I'm a bit lighter than I thought I was which is good but my belly is a good few inches bigger than I expected. This is probably due to a large consumption of beer at the villa and town this weekend so I hope this will go down as I cut out the lager.

Using Marsh's BMI calculator this is my results;

Result:
28.1

Your maximum healthy weight based on a BMI of 25 is 13.5 stones*
Amber Light
less than 18.5:underweight
18.5 - 25:normal weight
25 - 30:overweight
over 30:heavily overweigh

PROBLEM!! - to be 'normal' I need to lower my target weight from 14 stone to 13 stone 5lbs. This is a massive target! However I suppose I have to go for it. So lets begin...

BMI tools to help you with your progress

The first one is the standard BMI chart used.  There are arguments against this chart but regardless of how "big boned" or "highly muscled" one is its still a decent outcome measure to use.

This link helps you work out your BMI in a few seconds. Just type in your height and weight and it does the calculation for you.

Marsh starting BMI was 32.6 but its down to 32.3 now.

Boarding School / Divorce Awaits

My weekly trip to Boots' newfangled weight machine gave me a weight of 16st 4lbs this evening. Quite a shock, especially since I have been ill for the majority of the preceding week, and I was only 14st 11lbs last Monday.

Oh how I chortled at my 4yr old son having sneaked up behind me and pressed down on the scales with his foot - he said it was Mammy's idea and I believe him!!

Take 2 on the scales entailed me keeping my beady eye on the little blighters as I was being weighed. 14st 8lbs the verdict on that occasion.

A loss of 3lbs, but not at all a cause for celebration. As I said, I have been ill, liquids exiting both ends of the spectrum, so I fully expected to have lost weight. It is definitely a 'false position' - in Premier League parlance.

I'm not adhering to a particular 'diet' as such, not in the early exchanges anyway - just drinking 2l of water a day, no chocolate, crisps, biscuits, cakes, pies, basically nothing that's nice.

From fatty to Fitty?

OK I haven't weighed myself yet, will be doing that this evening as soon as I get home from work. Had all intentions to do it today but its Monday and I woke up late so that went out of the window. I expect to be around 15st 6lbs. I'm going to weight myself at 6pm every Monday evening so I'm weighing myself at a constant time to make sure the measurements I'm getting are accurate.

I know exercise wise I should do OK as I've just done the great south run in 1hour 33mins but its my my diet that is an issue. I eat far too many pizzas, crisps and chocolate, and the amount of lager I consume is far too scary to mention! So the diet is definitely some thing I will be looking to improve as of today.

Targets - I am hoping to get down to around 14st, so that's 1 and a half stone loss. Not the most ambitious target but I haven't been that weight since I was about 15!

Guth Lost Just 1lb But I'm Upbeat

Well, at the first weekly weigh in I have lost a little weight but only 1lb - now at 18st 9lbs. My target is 2lbs per week so I've not achieved that but given the week I've had it's progress.

We've been having the house rewired at the same time as having a new combi boiler installed. To say the project didn't go smoothly is an understatement. They were installing a new shower at the same time but I discovered they selected one not compatible with combi boilers so that had to be taken out again.

The boiler installer has found a gas leak behind the gas fire in the living room. To cut a long story short, we had to have a couple of takeaway meals this week. I really enjoyed them but they obviously detracted from my weight-losing plans.

Anyway, I'm hoping to lose 2lbs next week - so it's "18st 7lbs here I come!"

Marsh weighs in - Week 1

Starting weight - 13 st 7 3/4lbs
Week 1 - 13st 6 1/4 lbs (loss 1.5 lbs)

A pleasing result only just missing my target of 13st 6 by 1/4lb.

Need to keep this up now!

Bike ride completed

A two hour bike ride will hopefully help as the first weigh-in approaches.  It was not easy, the powerful thighs of my yesteryears are just not the same these days.  They may still look enough to give me the nickname Thunderthighs or Kebablegs but i used to get up hills so much easy.  I guess it is 20 years since i regularly rode my bike.  Maybe the power will return? Im looking forwards to the weigh-in now!

Marsh declares week 1 frustrations

I have eaten very well this week with a very low saturated fat/high fibre diet.  I have succumbed to a couple of mini mars bars at Halloween and a jammie Wagonwheel but overall its been white meat, vegetables, sandwiches (no butter/mayo), jacket potaoes and salad with porridge/weetabix cereals (no sugar).  Ive drunk a little more water but i feel i still need my intake of fruit juices which i know contain calories that water dosnt but it helps with my 5-a-day.

The exercises component is the frustration.  Working a 8-6 day means that its pitch black when i get out of work and its dinner time.  I am working in a job for the next 9 months at least where i spend too much time sat on my backside.  Today ive walked maybe a few hundred steps only all day so regardless of how well i eat i wont lose weight.

Thursday is my day off and i am writing on here to motivate myself into a long bike ride and maybe a walk/jog.  I might even cycle to the pool and do some lengths - ive got to utilise the daylight on my weekly day off as well as weekends more.  Cmon lad, you can do it!!

Burgerboy to to skinnyboy??

Sam 'Burgerboy' Bache, although retired, has decided to join fellow JAFL managers in a quest to get fit!

At only 5ft 8 and 17 stone 3 lbs Bache would love to lose between 4 and 5 stone! And although he would no longer have those chubby cheeks to satisfy the ladies hes promised that there is plenty more to keep them happy!

Just Another Fat Lad

14 stone 11 makes me officially fat
Though far from lithe, I'm not having that
So I resolve to show the scales who is boss
With my healthy eating and massive weight loss

Out go the pies and the biscuits and cakes
I know I can do it, I have what it takes
I can survive without an intake of sugar
Although I do find eating salad's a bugger

My first goal is get down to merely overweight
As being obese, well, it doesn't feel great
Not just good eating, I'm off to the gym
At £25 a month I better get slim!!

Guth Going All Out To Lose The Gut

At 18st 10lbs Gordano FC's manager Richard Guth has signed up to the JAFL Get Fit Club.

"I may be the heaviest boss in JAFL, I don't know. I really put it down to being 'big boned' but we'll see over the weeks. My target is to lose 2lbs per week for 13 weeks. That should take me down toward 16 1/2 stones, which is where I'd like to be".

I'm also committed not to write blogs like a newspaper article from now on.

Marsh is officially a fat bastard!

Ok over 3 years has now passed since these posts and my weight has steadily gone back on. Coupled with this i was diagnosed with high cholesterol by the doctor at the end of 2009. I did change my diet massively but this had no effect on losing weight as a knee injury at the same time has prevented me from playing football. The cholesterol battle was a victorious one although i am sure recently i have slipped a little on this front also. A weeks all-inclusive indulging in Portugal has now taken me to my highest ever weight - an amazing 13st 7 3/4lbs.

This blog worked once before and it will work again.

I started by doing the shopping and buying healthy food all-round. I have eaten well since but i have eaten nothing but cereal, fruits and vegetables for 2 days - oh and a bite size bag of Maltesers - damn Halloween!

Official starting weight 13st 7 3/4lbs on Friday 29th October 2010.

Week 1 Target weight 13st 6lbs.
